Team Features - Oscar Partridge, Director of Photography

We were delighted to start working with Oscar in 2019 and he has been heavily involved in a great deal of Fern productions, including the ‘Behind These Eyes’ piece for Samaritans in 2023.

It’s always a pleasure to work with Oscar - not only for his immense skillset as a DP but also the way he presents himself within a team framework on projects - collaborative, hard-working and personable.

You can read more of an insight into Oscar on his website here, and also check out some highlights of his work here.

Oscar was kind enough to give us an insight into some interesting subjects. Enjoy!

What excites you most about a potential project?

The prospect of crafting visual narratives that resonate with audiences excites me the most about any potential project. I am particularly drawn to stories that challenge conventions and have the potential to spark conversations. The opportunity to experiment with new techniques and collaborate with creative minds to bring a unique vision to life is what I find most thrilling in my work.

What would you say are the three most important factors when collaborating with a director?

1. Communication: Clear and open dialogue is essential to understand the director's vision and ensure that the cinematography aligns with the storytelling goals.

2. Trust: Building a mutual trust allows for creative risks and can lead to a more dynamic and authentic visual experience.

3. Flexibility: Being adaptable and responsive to changes, whether they are artistic adjustments or logistical shifts, is crucial for a successful collaboration.

And likewise, what do you consider most important when working in a team?

1. Respect: Valuing each team member's contributions and expertise is fundamental to a harmonious and productive working environment.

2. Collaboration: Encouraging a collaborative spirit where ideas can be freely shared and developed collectively leads to a richer final product.

3. Coordination: Effective coordination ensures that all team members are working towards the same objectives and that the project progresses smoothly and efficiently.
